In addition to working on personal artistic pursuits, communal projects include:
a docuseries about each stop
a handmade postcard exchange
a travel quilt
a zine series
and devised theatre
All the work will be “quilted” together as an interactive Navigation Log.
MAP connects to the American local and national heritage and customs of making and traveling. A single stitch is small, done by one person, but the act connects the doer to a lineage of doers. One stitch secures, but one hundred stitches are a force. Quilts are a communal activity. MAP seeks to document, facilitate, and unify current making, not to superimpose “making”. Communities build the pieces; MAP helps stitch them together.
